He’s Expecting
Live-Action Adaptation of Kentaro Hiyama’s First Pregnancy
I doubt it will save Netflix stock, that is a much larger issue that has been building up for years due to streaming fatigue and Netflix continuously raising its price, the data from the watched hours of the first month after release however will help Netflix determine if the content was successful enough to renew or produce similar content.

Also, since this is a co-production with TV Tokyo, it is more likely to get more content because Netflix would split production costs with TV Tokyo.

We need more than 200 votes, cause that's how many gave it 1 star.

Hey, did anyone catch the reference to author Eri Sakai in the second episode? Aki is friends with a woman named Eri who tells her that she chose to have a baby when she started approaching 40. This a reference to Sakai's real life experience which she chronicled in her autobiographical manga "17 Months Pregnant".

I only found these three reviews for He's Expecting:
https://readysteadycut.com/2022/04/21/he...rspective/
https://decider.com/2022/04/22/hes-expec...ix-review/
https://www.leisurebyte.com/hes-expectin...umi-saito/

All of them pretty much say the same thing:
1. It's really weird.
2. It has some clever commentary.
3. The tone is inconsistent.
4. It's not for everyone (some will cry and some will be mad)

Overall, they said it was okay. None of them hated it, but I can definitely see some of their points. I feel that this would be better as an anime. It's premise works better as an out there slice of life style story.

Started and finished the series in the same day. I almost wish I didn't, but I will say this show was definitely worth the wait! It was definitely everything I hoped it was and best of all it was nothing I hoped it wasn't. A couple of twists, a range of emotions, and you don't just see the point of view of the two main characters. It was a look into modern Japanese culture, and yet somehow it defied it, but not too much or too little. Overall, a very good show that I would definitely love to watch season 2 of.

Things I liked:

I loved how much attention they gave to the relationship between Kentaro and Aki. I like that it is a loving relationship, but not necessarily a romantic one, though it does leave the door open to become that eventually.

I like the straightforward commentary that the show presents and its themes and was not afraid to admit what it was doing by the end.

THANK GOD!! that the episodes are short and the number is small. Netflix had this terrible history of unnecessarily long episodes (The Defenders Saga).

How they incorporated the Miyaji family into the story was clever when they felt tacked on in the original manga.

I like the world building here. The manga didn't really have time to explore this world all too well, so it's nice that the series was able to expand on that.

Kentaro and Aki's families being shown is a nice touch... almost.

Things I didn't like:

Kentaro's father Eiichi did not need to be in this. It was unnecessary drama and I don't think added much other than, he was a shitty parent, he ran away, he came and apologized, saw his grandson and left again. They should have left him dead.

I wish they had Mizuki Kawabata in the series so that Kentaro had both a man (Miyaji) and a woman to relate to, to create a unique dynamic.

The tone is a little inconsistent. This includes Miyaji's miscarriage which I don't think was needed.

There was a moment where it looked like it was going to focus on how Aki was not getting any attention as the mother of his baby from the public, but it kind of just drops it. No one questions who the baby's mother is.

The ending kind of petered out for me, but I can't really blame them for that.

Final thoughts:

The show is still very quirky and fun. The characters are likeable, except Eiichi, and I was still impressed with the story. It's a quick easy watch and while it works as a singular season, I can see them doing another one. Out of all the male pregnancy media out there, this is by far probably the smartest one I have seen.

This is why is is even more adamant that we support this series as much as possible by giving it as many watched hours as possible!

I agree that Americans make everything political that is not political including movies, and TV shows. The only people who are making an issue about this movie claiming that it is woke is right-wing/conservative people. I watch conservative YouTubers often, even though I don’t agree with their talking points they are the only one making a big deal out of this.

Eri Sakai now wants the show to be remade in Korea. How specific.

Additionally, she's well aware of the haters and refers to them as "Trump Supporters". XD

Well, she’s for the most part right. Especially cause Don Jr.’s dumbass. I don’t even care about the Trump family either way, and all this political nonsense, but because he brought He’s Expecting into his little political tirade, I kinda wanna hex his bitchass.

I don’t think it is racism. They just think that it is “woke propaganda” because they think it is about a transgender man getting pregnant similar to the movie seahorse where a transgender man got pregnant.

I wouldn't even call this series "woke". It's a pretty straightforward gender moral series. They've had these things for decades.
